Montebello Fiesta PLANNING MEETING 5.30 pm

A meeting was held to finalise arrangements for the Montebello Charity Fiesta day, on behalf of AECC Cancer charity.

Events kick off at 10.15 with a march through the Urbanisation , by the Algorfa Town Band.

Friday 27th March 2009

Coffee mornings were dropped, as all did not turn out what it was supposed to be. It had been turned into unlicensed Spanish Lessons for the English, and this caused upset with the good people of the village, who simply wanted to sit , drink coffee and converse in Spanish and English. Plans are in place to start up coffee mornings, so WATCH THIS SPACE. Intergration is the keyword.

El Corralito Restaurant- Algorfa

On Sunday lunchtimes for the past 3 weeks, the restaurant has prepared typical Spanish food, which can be tried for free if you buy a drink. Paella's of Rabbit, Vegetables and seafood, were prepared the first week, mainly by Pepe, the brother of the delightful Remedios, who is a major driving force from the indiginous population, for integration.The second week was seafood and vegetable, and on the 22nd March, Pepe made Gazpacho Manchego, which is a hot soup/stew. Again rabbit was used and square pieces of pasta were added to the pan. The whole dish was very filling and tasty. On 30th March it wil be Sardinas a la Plancha
and. no doubt, another excellent paella! It is well worth spending the afternoon there, chatting with the locals, soaking up the sun. It starts at 1 pm, and seats are quickly filled at the tables in the courtyard.

Tuesday 3rd March

The success of last week's coffee/Spanish lesson venture in the Vestry is to be a regular feature. Today saw about 40 people attend, mainly non Spanish. Rafael, took us through the alphabet and set a test of 20 Spanish sentences, in order to assess at what level everybody is, so that the group can be split into beginners and more advanced. The session costs 3 euros and lasts about an hour, and includes a cup of coffee, tea or whatever you want to drink. This was very enjoyable.

Friday 20th February 2009

The next meeting of the Integration Association is on March 3rd at 9 pm.

There is to be a trial Spanish/English coffee morning at the Vestry , in Algorfa at 10.00 am
Rafael, will be there to help with translation. This is on 24th February. All are welcome.

Saturday 21st February sees a carnival procession in Algorfa at 4.30 pm. Anyone can join in and get dressed up in fancy dress .Hot choclate and cakes will be available after the procession, as well as children's activities.

Wednesday 21st January

Following last night's meeting of the Integration Association, it was decided to make the next meeting in 4 weeks time, on Tuesday 17th February. This was to allow all the final legal formalities and bank account opening to take place.
The meeting will be at 9 pm in the cultural centre.

Wednesday 14th January

Algorfa to get a new school

Funding and approval has been given to the Ayuntamiento to build a new school.
The proviso for this is that further land is urbanised behind the tennis courts, at the rear of Fontana 3.

Work will begin on this part of the process within the next few months.

Once completed the school will provide more classrooms, and will enable a computer room to be installed , as well as a room for "special needs" children.
The old school is currently too small, and it is planned that this will be converted into a new medical centre, to replace the existing one.

The timescales are not exact, so it may take 2 to 3 years to complete.

This development is a positive move, aimed at enhancing the facilities in the Village.

European Residents Algorfa Integration Association

Weekly meetings held at 9 pm, every Tuesday in the Cultural Centre.

This is the first Association to be established in Alicante Province, all support is welcome

Every Thursday    4 p.m till 5 p.m Reading of Spanish childrens' books in the
                           library, to help with learning the language
Every Sunday      6 p.m till 8 p.m Bingo in the old chemist's shop
                           on the main street
